There is only one thing better than a big cooker and that is a big cooker with big options. We worked with the “XL” for over three years: designing, building and redesigning set-up scenarios. We think we’ve hit on something big with the Flip Ring, Hanger and 21.5-inch Grid Combo. Together, they take full advantage of the “XL”’s capabilities. We hope you like ‘em! IMPORTANT PLEASE READ: In 2008, Big Green Egg redesigned the fire ring and firebox in the XL cooker. With the redesign, the firebox is one inch shorter and the fire ring has three 3/4-inch deep X 6 inch long notches on top. How can you distinguish the old from the new? • Original Design: With the original design, it is 2 inches from the top of the fire ring to the base’s felt rim and there are six shallow dimples on top of the fire ring. • With the new design, it is 3-inches from the top of fire ring to the base's felt rim and the top of the fire ring has three deep notches and three shallow dimples. To keep up with XL, we redesigned the Flip Ring and Hanger pieces. So, before proceeding any further, we recommend you take a quick measurement and visual check to determine which fire ring/firebox you have. This is the only way to insure that you purchase the best equipment for your XL. IMPORTANT PLEASE DO: Measure and visually check: • Measure from the top of the fire ring to the base’s felt rim. If the measurement is 2 inches, you have the original XL cooker and the Flip2 Ring (2 for two inches) will fit your cooker. If the measurement is 3 inches, you have the redesigned XL and the Flip3 Ring (3 for three inches) will fit your cooker. • Visually check and verify: If your measurement is 2 inches, the fire ring should have six shallow dimples on top and either Hanger (Original or Triangle) will fit your fire ring. If your measurement is 3 inches, the fire ring should have three deep notches and three shallow dimples on top and only the Triangle Hanger will fit your fire ring. So simply, 2 inches with six shallow notches, the Flip2 Ring is for you. 3 inches with 3 shallow notches and 3 deep notches, the Flip3 Ring is for you.
